My name is Scott, and I am a Benzo Survivor.
I am a teacher. Currently working in middle school special education.
I'm lucky to be alive.
Not from catching on fire, although that could have easily killed me. I have 2nd degree burns over 10% and 3rd degree over 5% of my body. It was over in a flash!
Benzodiazepine withdrawals on the other hand have been trying to kill me since 2008. They caused an unparalleled desire to commit suicide for years and trauma that will last a lifetime.
I am healing and you can too.

I am not sure why my family didn’t believe me. They aren’t bankrolled by big pharma. I can’t imagine any of my doctors admitting that they harmed me. I also can’t imagine that any insurance company would cover the medical costs associated with a prolonged withdrawal that drags on for years. That must be why they blamed me. Calling me crazy cost them nothing! Cost me love, friends, family, jobs, and more.
But there is hope!
If I can be freed from Benzodiazepines, taken as prescribed, after 16 years of struggles with no help or support from my family or the medical community, you can too!
The one thing that helped me more than anything was staying focused on recovery and knowing in my heart that I will overcome this hell!
I put a notecard in my pocket to remind me.
